Avalokiteshvara
The Buddha who appears to teach us how to grow our beautiful minds of love and compassion is named Avalokiteshvara.
Compassion is a powerful wish in our hearts to stop forever all the different kinds of pain that people, animals, and others experience with their bodies and minds.
Avalokiteshvara has a body that is clear white in color, and he shines with rainbow light. He sits on a white lotus seat with a moon at his back. His legs are crossed in the vajra position, and his beloved Spiritual Guide, Buddha Amitabha, is always with him on his crown. Smiling gently at all living beings with eyes of love, Avallokiteshvara wears silk clothing and sparkling necklaces, anklets, and bracelets.
Avalokiteshvara usually appears with four arms. Two of his hands are pressed together at his heart, holding a radiant wishfulfilling jewel. His second left hand holds a white lotus flower and his second right hand holds a crystal mala. These objects remind us that Avalokiteshvara is a completely pure being who can lead us all to a perfect world where there is only happiness.
If we wish to help those we love become free from sadness, anger, pain, and problems, we can pray to Avalokiteshvara. With his blessings, their suffering will be removed and our own love and compassion will increase. Then one day we too will become a Buddha of Compassion.
